First
things first. A big thanks to all of those members who contributed
on the evening of the last meeting. Anyone who has not contributed
but would like to, there is still time. Most members who have
contributed, donated £25.00 With the outstanding donation
from Geoff Walsh and the cash available in the club account we
are within range of our goal. We have every expectation that we
will have one available for the February 2005 meeting.
Derek
Taylor and Ivor Ruddle have been trawling the net for prices and
visiting stores to see a range of units in our price range. Like
all such devices there are a range of questions to ask and answer.
We have researched the implications of lamp life, Contrast Ratio,
Brightness, Focal length, LCD v DLP technology.
The
difference between a home cinema projector and any other projector.
In
short, DLP is generally better for TV and film viewing where LCD
gives better text viewing. The trade off being contrast ratio.
DLP offers contrast rations up to 4000:1 where LCD is more likely
to be 400:1 or less.
For
our use we have selected a range consisting of offerings from
Epson, Sony, Panasonic, Canon and Infocus.
Prices
range from £492 to £703 inc VAT. Illumination from
1000 ANSI to 1,600 ANSI. Some are described as Home Projectors,
some simply Projector and others as Multi-purpose Projector.
Full
specifications have been obtained and these will presented to
the committee at the next meeting. We will then decide which to
buy and where to buy it from.
Having
completed this stage we will count our money and decide how much
more we need to get what we want.
So
we can look forward to a 2005 with much, much, more in the way
of presentations that everyone can see.
