As most of you will be aware this month we have our annual Photo competition. If you have any questions regarding the competition please contact Geoff Walsh who will happy to answer your questions.

Also this year we hope to display some of the entries at the library in the new year. I have just received the following information from Geoff.

“I have arranged with Melton Library to hold Melton Computer Club Photo Exhibition from Sat 25 Feb to 4 March. I will require the assistance of one members to set it up. “ If you would like to help set up the exhibition please talk to Geoff.

Next Month

As most of you will be aware next months meeting will be the AGM. After the events of this year we need to reorganise how we do certain things within the club.

At the AGM three of the committee members will be up for re-election plus we have the chairman’s position to fill. If you would like to be considered for one of these positions and would like more information on what is involved please contact Derek or Dave who will be able to give you more information.

We would also like some assistance with the production of the newsletter so if you can spare some time to help please contact us as soon as possible.

Skype Beta 2 launches

Skype to offer free video calling as well as other treats as part of its new beta version.

Video features have been available in MSN, Yahoo and AOL messengers for awhile, but Skype's announcement is made even more significant now that it's also announced partnerships with Logitech and Creative. The two companies, responsible for around 70 per cent of the world's webcam sales, will be selling Skype-certified webcams, although this doesn't mean that cams from other manufacturers are incompatible. It's a case of playing catch-up for Skype - competing video services have so far had a limited uptake. Skype will be hoping that the new feature will be taken advantage of by its 53 million registered users, and show the others how it's done.

Other new features in the Skype 2.0 Beta include self-expression, giving you the ability to broadcast your mood to potential callers, and also a local time display. If you've ever dragged an overseas contact out of bed in order to talk over a trivial matter, you'll realise the value of this one.
