SP2 Windows XP

I did say that I would let you know how I got on. Well here it is.

I restored to a point before the installation of SP2 then set about trying again. Still problems.

Next I completely restored my machine to delivery status. Then reinstalled all of my software again. About a days job.

I then installed the WiFi software and drivers. Next I set up my network and it works.

Where does this leave me? Waiting to give SP2 a settling in period. I have had no issues with it on tower system. It installed and worked without issue from day one.

What do you do? Sorry, take your chance, but if you want go back, uninstall, don’t restore.

A Video Projector

The project continues. Following this weeks committee meeting we have decided to ask for volunteers to make a contribution of £25.00 towards the cost of purchase. Our annual membership subscription has been maintained at a very low level as a matter of policy since the club was set in 1984. When we have needed anything we have gone to the membership and collectively purchased it. In the past we have owned scanners, printers and computers. We also owned a large screen TV set. As time has passed these items have become of little use to us and in most cases they have been scrapped. Our club policy on assets is that in the event of the club winding up all assets will be sold off and the proceeds distributed between the current membership. In most cases, because of the nature of the technology that we are interested in, the value reduces drastically after purchase and equipment reduces in price quite quickly. This project is an investment in communications not a financial investment. It will, however make a very significant difference to all of our club activities as many of you will have seen in the past.

Compared the cost of subscription £25 sounds expensive. Compared to one night out it is cheap.

We prefer to ask for a one off contribution as opposed to increasing the subscriptions because in medium term it lower cost to the membership.

The addition of a projector available for every meeting opens the way for us to cover in much more detail graphic manipulation, image editing and special effects, video editing even hardware demonstrations. It will enable us to video demonstrations of equipment that we can not bring to the club meeting and show easily.

We already have £300 so please help us to inject some exciting possibilities to our meeting be making your contribution to the project.

We can expect between 2,000 and 3,000 hours use from a lamp costing about £300 that gives us several years of use and lots of time to accumulate enough funds to buy a replacement. We do not at this stage envisage hiring or lending it out. It is very important to us that it is always available for us the use.
