Once Steve had a bootable USB stick with a running copy of Rescatux
installed, he set about cloning the software from from the original Laptops
160GB disc to a modern 120 GB solid state drive using the Gparted edi-
tor. He was then able to replace the old hard drive with the new SSD and
have a fully functioning operating system.
Steve also mentioned another Linux based application called Gnome Disk
which he had not had time to investigate thoroughly.
Gnome disks is a tool to manage disk drives and media:
* format and partition drives.
* mount and unmount partitions.
* query s.m.a.r.t. attributes.
it utilizes udisks.
For cloning purposes, purchasing a docking station from around £15 will
make life simpler.
