It then explains to owners that their PC has been blocked due to an
“unsolvable threat.”
Users are then told they must buy a new version of the Microsoft software
or delete all information on the PC which will render it useless.
The scam appears to be targeting the more vulnerable as experienced
Windows 10 users are unlikely to fall prey to the con. However, even with
the message including grammatical errors, it’s still thought some people
could still be tricked by the scam.
It’s worth noting that Microsoft would never contact users in this way or
charge them to update their software. This isn’t the first time cyber crimi-
nals have tried to use this banning scam. In 2016, Windows users were
targeted with a similar type of malware which suggested their MS Win-
dows installation was halted for violating the terms and conditions of Mi-
crosoft and Windows.
Victims were then told to call a technical support number to fix the issue.
However, this fraudulent number often ended with people forced to pay a
fee .
Experts are now warning users to make sure their PCs and anti virus soft-
ware is fully up-to-date.
