This free package seems to be about the most comprehensive that I have
found. Have a look; I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Music
Converting music files very much depends on the quality of the original
file, your personal preferences and what you intend listening to it on.
Having the best quality music file and playing it through a PC with a low
spec audio card and cheap speakers is a waste of time and disk space.
Having said that, high quality audio can be downloaded. If you want to
download lossless quality as FLAC or WAV files from your personal CD
collection (is this legal these days?) then a good starting point is Exact
Audio Copy
· It is free (for non-commercial purposes).
· It works with a technology, which reads audio CDs almost per-
fectly. If there are any errors that can’t be corrected, it will tell
you on which time position the (possible) distortion occurred, so
you could easily control it with e.g. the media player.
With other audio grabbers you usually need to listen to every grabbed
wave because they only do jitter correction. Scratched CDs read on CD-
ROM drives often produce distortions. But listening to every extracted
audio track is a waste of time. Exact Audio Copy conquer these problems
by making use of several technologies like multi-reading with verify and
accurate rip.
The program reads each sector on the CD at least twice to verify that the
data has been copied correctly.
