When it comes to images, the file formats are legion. They range from
compressed .JPG files through to the various incarnations of RAW un-

compressed format files. Major imaging software packages such as Adobe
Photoshop even throw in a few more to make life interesting.

Some of the more common formats you may come across are JPG, TIF,
PNG, BMP, GIF, JP2, PICT and PCX. Many of these are peculiar to the
software package that developed them, but of course that is no good if you

want to open them in something else. Happily all is not lost and one really
