ing to be an instruction to all the devices within earshot! How many will
try ‘Format C:’ or ‘Delete *.*’?
In offices, the clicking of mouse and keyboard will be replaced by the
hushed murmurings of each staff member talking to their desktop. Actual-
ly, it probably will not look like a desktop as such – maybe just a glass
panel, with all the hardware embedded in it connected to a cloud some-
where.
No more RSI, but maybe a few sore throats – especially if the instructions
are not completely understood and you have to repeat them in a slightly
different manner each time.
But then again, why sit in the real office with everyone else within a few
feet – tomorrow’s technology could allow VR to make you believe that
you are in the office with everyone else when they are actually distributed
across the globe.
Some of these advances will not be welcomed and some will still want to
trek into a physical office – but after a generation or so, things will
change. The youngsters will accept that walking around a store or the of-
fice can be done using VR in effectively real time – so no need to do any-
thing other than to remain at home – as long as their internet connection is
functioning.
Consider the consternation of those sat in their bedrooms when their inter-
net connection fails! They may actually have to leave the house.
This may just mean that for extended periods of time no one actually
physically leaves their own environment – the only people on the streets
will be the delivery drivers, but they are already being replaced by drones.
So, in the not too distant future, the streets could be deserted as people
prefer their own company to that of others,
If that’s the case, then the human race may well be doomed!
Just like our club – no new people, no new topics and we will begin to
fade away.
