These days helpful apps can have things existing in the cloud – so just be
sure where your search is likely to take place. If you have 000’s and 000’s
of files, indexing them all and maintaining the index may actually not be
too beneficial. Also, check to see if the locations indexed have the option
set to index the contents. This might be good for just Word docs/letters –
but not everything.
Further key examples are F1, for help; F2, to rename a file or folder; Alt
-Tab to cycle through open windows on your desktop.
Fault finding; When the unexpected happens…you need to do some fault
finding. Ask yourself; has it ever worked? What have you installed/
removed since it last worked? Is there any error/warning dialogue or mes-
sage… somewhere on the screen (or off the screen)? Also check any logs
from the application or system.
Screen capture: Capture of the screen or part of screen can be a useful
source of illustrations. Windows provides a Snip Tool; Windows 7> Win-
dows icon> Programmes>Accessories>Snip; Windows 10 left click Win-
dows icon, scroll down list of installed programmes to Windows Accesso-
ries, select Snip Tool. For easier access to the Snip Tool in future, right
click on the Snip Tool and select an option to add to start up folder or task
bar.
